Aoyama Lunch Toastmasters Club started in 1980 as ACCJ Toastmasters Club.
It is probably the eighth
oldest existing club in Japan. The club changed its name to Aoyama
Lunch in 2002. Today we take pride to be the only one lunch club in
Japan.
Our members are mostly professionals of various nationalities including native speakers, who work in the vicinity of the metropolitan areas of Aoyama and Shibuya. We have a shared goal of developing presentation skills using the lunch time.
Our meeting time is short - just 90 minutes - and yet it typically includes three sessions for speeches, evaluations, table topics and more, all delivered in English, our official language.
In October 1924,a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking. The group took the name "Toastmasters ".
 Today, Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities. Toastmasters International includes nearly 235,000 members in 12,036 clubs in 106 countries as of April 2009. Japan forms District 76 (District 76 website), which has 100 clubs ( District 76 Clubs) in six divisions as of July 2010. We have come a long way since it started in Japan in 1954. This Club belongs to Area 21, Division B, District 76.
 Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are to become better communicators.
 At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
